Whole House Insulation - Bournville, Birmingham

Elizabeth and Thorsten had lived in their Edwardian terrace for a decade when they decided to invest in energy efficiency improvements for their home.

The world-famous model village of Bournville, south Birmingham, has a lot to be proud of; it's heritage and association with Cadbury, its lush green spaces and its residents' strong community spirit all contribute towards what the BBC called "simply one of the nicest places to live in Britain."

Bournville homes (B30) are likely to be solid wall properties dating back to pre-1920 and therefore considerably draughtier than houses built with cavity walls.

Making their home warmer and more cost-effective was a priority for Elizabeth and Thorsten  - but insulating a property over a century old presents its own challenges, which is why they chose Six Star Insulation to design and carry out the upgrade.

A Holistic Approach to Warm Homes

As insulation and ventilation experts, Six Star also advised the installation of vapour-tracking fans in the bathroom and kitchen, as well asinstalling insulation in the loft and at the sloping parts of the upstairs ceiling.
But keeping the house warm wasn’t the only consideration; it had to look good, too. “We chose a cream colour to finish, and our house looks distinctive without standing out like a sore thumb. We’re obviously pleased that we’re contributing less to global warming.” Elizabeth says.

Old Homes, Modern Living

"The rooms feel warm even when the radiators have gone off. Our daughter’s bedroom benefits the most. We used to have damp problems, but now it stays at a much more even temperature and she seldom has the radiator on when she’s studying in there.
We feel that we’ve made the house a viable and energy-efficient dwelling for at least another century.”
